Stop Missing Leads While You Are On a Roof

Stop Missing Leads While You Are On a Roof

A roofer in Mt. Juliet let me look at his phone records for one month. Sixty-one inbound calls. Thirty-eight went to voicemail. Nine of those left a message. He called back eight of the nine and booked four.

So twenty-nine people called him, got a recording, and were never heard from again.

Where those calls go

They go to the next name in the search results. That is it. Nobody who needs a roof looked at, a drain cleared, or an AC unit that quit in July is going to wait around for a call back. They keep dialing until somebody picks up.

The number people quote is that most callers do not leave a voicemail. That matches every phone log I have looked at in Middle Tennessee. Somewhere between two thirds and three quarters of missed calls just vanish.

Why you cannot fix this by trying harder

Every owner I meet has already tried. You keep the phone in your pocket. You call back on the drive. Your wife answers when she can. None of it works, because the problem is not effort. You cannot answer a phone with both hands on a nail gun on a twelve pitch.

Hiring somebody to answer is real, but for a two or three man operation the math usually does not work, and a part-timer who does not know the trade takes bad messages.

What actually works

Something answers instantly, every time, and it knows your business.

Here is what that looks like in practice. A homeowner in Hendersonville calls at 4:40 on a Friday. It picks up on the first ring. It says you are on a job and it can take the details. It asks what is going on, gets that there is a stain on the ceiling in the back bedroom after the storm Wednesday, gets the address, gets whether they have called insurance, and asks if morning or afternoon is better next week.

Your phone buzzes with a summary. Name, address, ceiling stain, storm damage Wednesday, insurance not called yet, prefers mornings. You text back from the truck at six.

That customer never sat in silence and never got a recording. And you did not stop working.

The three pieces

Answer. Calls, texts, and web messages all get picked up within seconds. See how AI lead response works.

Capture. Every lead lands in one place with the details, instead of on a scrap of paper. That is customer and job tracking.

Chase. The ones who do not book right away get a follow-up text a few days later, automatically. That is lead follow-up automation.

What it is worth

Take that roofer. Twenty-nine lost calls. Say only a quarter of them were real work and he closes half of those. That is three or four jobs a month walking away.

You do not need a spreadsheet to know that is the most expensive problem in the business.
